About the studio

Liverpool Studio

Studio Liverpool began life as Psygnosis in 1984, swiftly building up a reputation for developing innovative, cutting-edge games for the leading game platforms. After becoming part of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) in 1993, Studio Liverpool was intrinsically linked with the success of PlayStation®, creating the original "Wipeout" in 1995, followed closely by "Colony Wars" in 1996. The studio has since developed launch titles for every PlayStation format that has been released.

Studio Liverpool’s long-standing heritage in producing quality racing games is also due in large part to its worldwide success with the long-running "Formula One" series, the first of which was released back in 1996.

With its modern offices easily reached via the M62 motorway, the studio attracts people from all over the north-west of England, while being close enough to the centre of Liverpool to enjoy all the cultural, entertainment and sporting facilities of this world-famous city.

The studio has three HD editing suites on-site and the building is also home to the First Party QA division, which handles European quality assurance for SCE’s titles.
