Polyphony Digital Inc. is a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Polyphony Digital began as a development team within SCE, but became an independent company in 1998, the year after the release of its first title, Gran Turismo.
Gran Turismo is SCE Worldwide Studios' most successful series in its history with games bearing the Gran Turismo name selling in excess of 50 million. Gran Turismo excels at providing all the thrills and danger of motor racing while driving the kinds of cars most people can only dream of. This combination of racing game and car simulation has topped the charts on every single PlayStation® platform, including AIAS(The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences) Console Game Of The Year twice - one for the original Gran Turismo, and one for Gran Turismo 3 in 2002.
Polyphony Digital Inc. also developed Tourist Trophy, which brought the essential experience of motorcycle racing to PLAYSTATION®3, with over 100 licensed sports bikes and unrivalled physics and graphics.
In addition, Polyphony Digital Inc. has produced simulations and demos for many major car manufacturers, including Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, and Honda to use in-house and for promotional purposes.
Over 140 people are employed at Polyphony Digital Inc.'s offices in Tokyo, led by Kazunori Yamauchi, the director of the Gran Turismo series. The studio's ultra-modern offices cover more than 2,600 square metres, with areas designed to allow places to sit, stand, walk, talk, write, read, listen, and discuss - all key activities conducive to product development.
